Scaling New Heights!
An Interview With Sir. Edmund Hillary!

# Q 1: Were you really excited about climbing the world's tallest mountain?
# Q 2: Did you already know that if you climbed to the top of the mountain that you'd be the first ever person to reach the top!?
# Q 3: Did anyone tell you to climb Mt. Everest, or did you just want to do it!?

  1. Hi Cathy,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team, reading your blog from Canada. I don't live in the mountainous part of Canada but, like New Zealand, we have mountains along our west coast. I can only imagine the kind of challenge it must have been for Sir Edmund Hillary to climb Mt. Everest so many years ago. However, he didn't climb alone. He had the company and support of a Sherpa guide named Tenzing Norgay. Both men should be celebrated because they reached the summit together. Amazing! And they had some other men supporting them, helping them get equipment and oxygen as high up on the mountain as possible.

Sir Edmund Hillary must have been a very brave and determined person, mustn't he? Do you have any goals that want to reach? Would you be interested in climbing mountains some day or doing some other adventurous thing? I've done some canoe-tripping here in Canada - that's my favourite adventure activity because I love paddling and I love being in our wilderness areas.

Your questions for Sir Edmund are very good! The activity asks you to pose 5 questions and you've posed 3. Are there 2 more things that you can think of that you would ask him, if you could? You can add them to this posting if you wish to, to get full marks.

I'll check again to see if you've decided to add more.

Meanwhile, have a lovely summer day!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
