The World Around Us! - Protect and Preserve! - Week 4 - Day 1 - Activity 2 - SLJ - Preserving the Past!

Guardians of the Sea!
True or FALSE!

I BELIEVE! I think this is true because there couldn't be anything in the river ( other than the taniwha ) that would be that big to make those big bubbles! Also scientists have only looked through 5 percent of seafloor because it's too deep! So no one actually knows what's deep in the water, there could be many unique creatures like the taniwha! No one actually has explored through the whole river! This is why I believe that the taniwha could be real!

  1. Hi Cathy,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my home in Canada where we're not swimming any time soon. Our rivers and lakes are frozen solid as the temperatures are well below freezing day and night.

I think you make a good argument about the possibility that Taniwhas may exist. It's true that no one has been able to investigate all of the ocean floors, or even all of the lakes and rivers that can be found in your beautiful country. Who knows what is living in some of the deepest underwater areas?

Sometimes, though, people make up stories in order to serve a purpose. It's possible that, long ago, people were afraid of letting their children swim in the ocean or in the lakes and rivers. They might have created a story about a sea creature in order to frighten the children so that they wouldn't want to swim. Hmmm...

There are many mysteries in life and perhaps this is one of them.

Do you know of any other myths that may not be factually true?

I hope you've had some time this summer to enjoy reading story books, as well as the information for the Summer Learning Journey. There's nothing like a good book to read at bed time!!

Have a lovely day today and I'll continue to read your blog.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
