The World Around Us! - Protect and Preserve! - Week 4 - Day 5 - Activity 3 - SLJ - The Sky’s the Limit!

Concluding the Journey!
The Finish Line!

1. What is one thing that you learned from participating in the Summer Learning Journey programme this year?

I learnt that a honey bees and bumblebees are different! A single bumblebee can do 50 times the work of a honeybee and carries a bigger payload of pollen.

2. What is one thing that surprised you?

I never knew there was such a dolphin called the Maui dolphin! Fun Fact - Māui dolphins are the smallest of the world’s 32 dolphin species.

3. What is one thing that concerned or upset you?

I was upset when I heard that in some cities of china there is air pollution, because of this everyone has to wear a mask and it's all foggy there!

4. What is one thing that you (or your family) can do, moving forward, to help protect our natural environment?

My family and I can be everyday heroes by recycling and convincing others to recycle as well!

  • Meerkats have small ears but the other two animals have pointy ears!
  • Kangaroos are very big but the meerkat and arctic hare are small!
  • The arctic hare lives in the arctic but the other two animals don't like the cold!

The KING!

The animal I would like to adopt the most would be the meerkat because they are so cute, fast, and mischievous!

Restricted Access!
RULES!

I think this rule is okay because if tourists damage the area, we definitely need a change! I think there is another solution for this problem. Maybe there could be no limits of how many people come, but this could only be opened on some days!

The World Around Us! - Protect and Preserve! - Week 4 - Day 4 - Activity 2 - SLJ - Making Promises!

The Plastic Pledge!
You're being a Hero!

I think this is an amazing idea! After so many people making speeches, videos, adds, and so many other things to make people understand that we need to help the environment, people are finally going to do something about this! YASSSSSSS! My dad agrees with me and says it's a good idea and that this will help save the land we live on! NATURE!

Cacophony Project!

I liked the cacophony project the most because this smart man was using technology for the greater good of wildlife! He made traps and used different luring techniques. I would of never thought of that. The traps didn't kill the animals but just trapped them! There was a camera so you could watch the animals! This is why I liked this project the most!

Pick a project!

Cattle water and wildlife!

I picked this project because every other project I saw was about an animal or plants! But this one is different because it's about water for animals. I also chose this because last year (2018) I was is the water group for inquiry. We looked for ways to save water and realised how important water is, for us and the wildlife!

Guardians of the Sea!
True or FALSE!

I BELIEVE! I think this is true because there couldn't be anything in the river ( other than the taniwha ) that would be that big to make those big bubbles! Also scientists have only looked through 5 percent of seafloor because it's too deep! So no one actually knows what's deep in the water, there could be many unique creatures like the taniwha! No one actually has explored through the whole river! This is why I believe that the taniwha could be real!

The World Around Us! - Up, Up, and Away! - Week 3 - Day 5 - Activity 3 - SLJ - Here to Stay!

Let It Rain!
ACID RAIN!

It's been three whole days and there is a nonstop rain! Not any regularly rain, ACID rain! Cathy and her friends and family have been inside for so long. When the rain stopped everyone was so happy and immediately ran up to the door. They all wanted to go out for a walk because they were so tired of being inside for three whole days! They slowly opened the door... There were puddles everywhere! Here, there, EVERYWHERE! They all put on their shoes and rain coats and ran outside! They started playing and jumping in the puddles and after a while the sun came out of its hiding spot!

THE END!

Persistent Pollution!
Stop HUMANS! STOP!

In this video I learnt 3 new things:

      1. I learnt what Smog means:

Smog: Fog or haze intensified by smoke or other atmospheric pollutants.

      2. I learnt that some air pollution comes from natural sources:

  • Volcano eruptions!
  • Fires
  • ...
      3. I learnt that there are solutions to stop air pollution! We just need to decrease the use of fossil fuels!

I can see two clouds that look the same way! One at the top left corner and the other at the top right corner! They kind of look like two little elephants with pointy ears!

The Seven Sisters!
Story Time!

The Seven Stars of Matariki

Once upon a time there was a man called Mitai who had six older brothers! One day Mitai and his brothers were out hunting and saw some women and immediately fell in love! The six older brothers were bewitched by the women and gave up eating, looking after themselves, and working. Mitai found out that the women are fairies so he made a plan with his brothers! The brothers captured  the fairy women and then took the fairy women to the god of the heavens and stars! The god took the women far, far away in the sky and let their beauty shine in the eastern sky as stars every year in the winter season!

  • If I want to be strong I can change into a gorilla!
  • If I want to fly I can change into a bird!
  • If I want to be invisible I can be a small animal!
  • If I want to be fast I can change into a cheetah!

The World Around Us! - Up, Up, and Away! - Week 3 - Day 2 - Activity 3 - SLJ - The Air Up There!

Flying Fungi!
Quick Maths!

Let’s imagine that we tested the air in your classroom and found 7 different kinds of mould. Eek! The cleaner says that it takes 5 days for each mould to be eradicated (removed). If the school had to remove each mould one at a time, how long would it take to remove all the mould from the classroom?

7 different kinds of mold and it takes 5 days to remove 1 mold so:

7 x 5 = 35

It will take 35 days to remove all 7 molds from the classroom one by one!
