World WildLife Fund!
Endangered Freshwater Seals!

    1. WWF is working to save the endangered freshwater seals in video 1!
    2. WWF is building snowbanks for the endangered freshwater seals! If the pups are born on open ice they will have no protection to the cold, predators, and human disturbance, so that's why the WWF are building snowbanks for the seals!
    3. WWF is doing a great job of protecting the seals, if they don't do this up to half of the pups could die!

  1. Hi Cathy,

It' Leslie here, writing to you from my home in a small town in Canada as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

You've done an excellent job of answering the questions that were asked of you for this activity. I found the video about the seals in Finland very inspiring because it showed that there are wonderful people who are willing to try to find a way to help an endangered species. Giving of their time to build snowdrifts is quite special, to my mind. And it's such a simple thing, really, but obviously makes a big difference to the seal population.

Would you like to be involved in a project like that some time? Are there endangered species of birds or animals in New Zealand that you would like to work to help?

My husband and I are members of a Naturalist club in our town and so we meet each month and learn about native plants and animals. Each Christmas time there is a "Bird Count" that our club participates in, with people volunteering to go out into the woods to count the number of different winter birds they can see or hear. That way we have some idea as whether or not our birds are going up or down in numbers. We don't want pollution or other factors to reduce the number of birds in our are. Perhaps you have a Naturalists club in your community too!

I'm enjoying reading your blog! And I'll keep on reading because you've completed so many activities. Good for you!!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
