Three Facts About Maui

On Day 1 of the Summer Literacy Challenge I learned three new things about Maui.
They are:

  • Maui is a kind and generous person, he is not greedy.
  • Maui is a person who never gives up.
  • Maui is not like his greedy brothers.
I have heard other stories about Maui, like Maui and the sun.

  1. Hi Cathy,

My name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you this summer for the Summer Learning Journey.

You have found three good facts. Well done! I like how you have talked about Maui being kind and generous. He certainly was very different from his brothers! I wonder why his brothers were so greedy. Do you have any ideas?

Maui was very determined wasn't he! A good word you could use here is 'persevere' which means to not give up but keep trying.

Have you heard any other Maui stories? There is a really good one about how Maui slowed the sun which you can read here if you are interested in reading some more Maui stories:

Let me know what you think about this story!
    Cheers,
    Ruby.

  3. Hola Cathy,
my name is Cia. I am a Summer Learning Journey blogger who will be working with Ako Hiko bloggers over the summer break.

I love the picture of Maui you’ve shared in your post, surely on a day like that he’d be out on a waka hunting! You’ve posted two facts that are really good, it’s awesome that you’ve recognised Māui’s personality traits such as his generosity and perseverance as facts.

Have you noticed that the first and third fact are essentially the same? We know now that Māui is not greedy, so what is another fact you could add to this post? Please edit to include one more fact as I would love to give you full points for this activity.

My favourite story about Māui is the one where he slows the sun. Māui’s braveness and willingness to do the things that would help his people even if they were scary were very memorable. There is also another story about Māui you might like to read if you have time:

I look forward to reading more of your posts and I hope you’re having a terrific holiday season!

  4. Kia Ora Cathy,

My name is Toeumu and i am a student in room 3 at Wesley Primary School.
Wow amazing facts about Maui, i totally agree Maui would never give up. Maybe next time you could add a little bit more detail. This reminds me of when i did this task and it is kind of similar. Good luck on your tasks over the summer/ school holidays.

Do you now any other stories that include Maui?

    Have a nice day
    Toeumu :)
